Class Types
Prana Yoga offers a variety of class types like vinyasa / flow yoga, yin, power flows, hot yoga, hot 26, pilates, and pre- / post-natal yoga.
Flow / Vinyasa
A flowing class with rhythmic movement to music and breath. Postures are intelligently linked together i sequences that help develop flexibility, focus and strength. Teachers might include topics from yogic philosophy and its application to modern life.
The class is purposefully faster paced, with fewer very longer holds, cultivating the mindful attention necessary to move with ease and grace.
This class allows all levels of yogis to practice to their ability, with accessible options in L1 and more challenging variations in L2.
Vinyasa classes are suitable for L1/2.
Level 1
Level 2
Power
Activates inner “tapas” or heat, through a focus on breathwork, held poses, and a fluid vinyasa sequence. As the class builds in intensity, students are encouraged to challenge themselves through added core work, repetition, and isometric holds. Once the body is warm, peak poses are introduced which involve balance, strength, and focus.
Level 2
Ashtanga
Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic and fast-paced flow of yoga. In this class you will be led through the primary series of Ashtanga, consisting of sun Salutations, standing postures, seated poses, backbends, and the finishing sequence. This is a challenging practise, combining breath, drishti, and bandhas to promote inner focus, and deep awareness.
Level 2
Rocket
Rocket Yoga, also known as 'The Rocket' is a dynamic and fast-paced flow of yoga. The structure is similar to that of Ashtanga Vinyasa, consisting of a warm-up (Surya Namaskar A + B), after which one continues in the standing poses, seated poses, and ending with the traditional closing series. Students are encouraged to make their own interpretation of the traditional asana and can remove or modify binding postures. This makes the sequence accessible to all practitioners, even those who may have structural disabilities who would otherwise not be able to practice traditional Ashtanga Yoga methods.
Level 2
Yin
A chance to balance the Yang nature of our lifestyles. It combines the meridian theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Zen and Buddhist philosophies and yoga postures, working with releasing the stagnation of “Chi” (or Prana) in our energetic bodies, lengthening and moisturising of our interconnective tissue, some myofascial pressure techniques and breath work. Students are encouraged to explore their edge in longer held postures, enabling introspection and self-study. This class welcomes all levels of yogis to practice the art of patience, stillness and softness. Not suitable for students experiencing muscular/connective tissues injuries.
Level 1
PREnatal
Pregnancy and postnatal yoga share much of the same movement vocabulary; both look at gentle ways of promoting strength and stability in the body during this journey, suggest ways of easing tension and offer short sequences, breathing exercises and meditation techniques which can be carried forwards into your daily life. Each session is filmed and shared with participants afterwards (students will not be filmed). Given that lockdown has left those with new babies with very few options for forming community, we are opening this class up to anyone who considers themselves postnatal - whether you've just had your 6-8 week check from a doctor or midwife and will have your newborn beside you, or you have an older baby, toddler or child at home and would like a gentle-paced yoga class. Suitable from 12-40+ weeks of pregnancy, and for postnatal students once they have had their 6-8 week check (or a little longer for c-section deliveries), and feel ready to resume structured activities.
Level 1 to 2
POSTnatal
Pregnancy and postnatal yoga share much of the same movement vocabulary; both look at gentle ways of promoting strength and stability in the body during this journey, suggest ways of easing tension and offer short sequences, breathing exercises and meditation techniques which can be carried forwards into your daily life. Each session is filmed and shared with participants afterwards (students will not be filmed). Level 1 to 2
Hot Flow
Hot Flow is a yoga class emphasising flowing transitions, moving with the breath with fewer holds. Think Flow / Vinyasa yoga in a room heated to 32 – 34 degrees, adapted to respect the unique challenges of the hot environment. The perfect entry level hot class, this is the coolest of the three but the fastest paced.
Level 1/2
Hot Power
Hot Power is a yoga class combining the flow and breath-work of Vinyasa/Flo with strength-building static holds. These classes are held in temperatures of 35 – 37 degrees and bring a balanced blend of movement and stillness to build intensity, strength and stamina. If you love both the static holds of Hot 26 and the moving meditation of vinyasa, this is a perfect choice. Hotter than Flow, but slower paced.
Level 1/2
Hot 26
Our hottest class, Hot 26 is taught in room temperatures of 40+ degrees and comprises 26 set postures plus two pranayama (breathing exercises). Based on Bikram yoga, the sequence remains the same in every class, although different teachers bring their own style to its expression. Each posture is held once in the 60 min class, and repeated twice in the classic 90 min class.
Level 1/2
Pilates
A dynamic practice, in a playful and friendly environment. Pilates focuses on core control and stability, which has helped me strengthen my body, improved flexibility and posture, and in turn has helped to protect my back after several nasty injuries.
Level 1/2
Flow to Restore
Gently flowing sequences to warm the body up followed by grounded static holds of gentle restorative poses with support o. Students are encouraged to explore their own pathway through a range of options and invitations, finding their own perfect balance between flowing and restoring.
Level 1/2
Kalari Flow
Kalari (Kalaripayattu) is the oldest martial art in the world, from Kerala, India. It’s based on yoga asanas, vinyasa and animal movements, plus jumps and kicks. This was taken to China and eventually became kung fu. It is deeply spiritual and an intense workout. Kalari builds on a yoga practice through the additional elements of strengthening routines, increasing cardio capacity and the use of dynamic, ballistic stretching. This class starts at a room temperature and slowly increases to about 30-35 degrees. Yoga mats are required at the beginning and end of the session.
Level 2
Mindfulness and Relaxation
This relaxation class is designed to alleviate stress and creates a supportive space for you to slow down, reflect inward and reconnect deeply with your body, mind, heart & soul. Several effective therapeutic tools are blended in this class to promote relaxation and balance including breathing techniques, intuitive and somatic movement, guided meditation and sensory visualisation, Reiki and sound healing. No experience is necessary. The session is open to all levels and facilitated to empower you with tools you can implement in your everyday life to effectively manage stress and build mental & emotional resilience in approaching life’s changes and challenges.
